Chaitanya Raj Singh is currently trending on social media for raising concerns over a historical error in an NCERT school textbook. On August 5, he took to social media and formally requested Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and NCERT to rectify a map shown in the Class 8 Social Science textbook, which incorrectly depicts Jaisalmer as part of the Maratha Empire.Singh wrote in a post on X, "Such unverified and historically unsubstantiated information not only raises questions about the credibility of institutions like NCERT but also hurts our glorious history and public sentiments. This issue is not merely a textbook error but appears to be an attempt to tarnish the sacrifices, sovereignty, and valorous saga of our ancestors."
In response, NCERT issued a statement saying that they have a standard process of forming a committee whenever significant feedback is received about textbook content."At present, NCERT has received feedback about the educational content in a few textbooks. Hence, a Committee is being constituted having senior experts, as per its established practice,” NCERT said in its official statement.
According to NCERT, this committee will be composed of domain experts from reputed institutions and relevant subject areas. It will "carefully deliberate on the matter, make evidence-based decisions, and recommend appropriate actions accordingly at the earliest."
