50 Christmas trees, 10,000 butterflies: Melania Trump gives a sneak peek of White House’s Christmas décor and theme
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is just around the corner, and the White House is ready to welcome the warmth and magic of the holiday season. Continuing the cherished tradition, First Lady Melania Trump has taken charge of the Christmas décor and theme. This year’s theme? Home is where the heart is!
On Monday, Dec. 1, the FLOTUS offered a sneak peek of the White House’s Christmas decorations, and it is straight out of a holiday movie. With 50 Christmas trees, 10,000 butterflies and countless festive touches, the nation’s most famous residence has been transformed into a breathtaking Christmas wonderland.
“This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we hold within ourselves, and share it with the world around us. After all, wherever we are, we can create a home filled with grace, radiance and endless possibilities,” she added.
The windows of the White House have been turned into art displays, as Melania Trump’s 75 signature wreaths with classic red bows were added. The 700 feet of garland and 25,000 feet of ribbon also fill the halls with holiday spirit.
Pierre has also curated a limited-edition tour booklet for guests. Keeping the festive cheer in mind, the Green Room also displays two presidential portraits created from more than 6,000 puzzle pieces — a fun way to spend Christmas evening!
The East Room showcases special exhibits in red, white and blue, honouring America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
No White House Christmas would be complete without the traditional gingerbread house! More than 120 pounds of gingerbread went into the creation placed in the State Dining Room. With every detail overseen by Melania Trump herself, the White House has transformed into a Christmas wonderland.
Home is where the heart is
Drawing inspiration from the joys, challenges and frequent motion derived from motherhood and business, the FLOTUS curated a Christmas theme that many resonate with. Reflecting on this year’s theme, America’s First Lady said, “The constant movement has taught me that home is not merely a physical space; rather, it is the warmth and comfort I carry within, regardless of my surroundings.”“This Christmas, let’s celebrate the love we hold within ourselves, and share it with the world around us. After all, wherever we are, we can create a home filled with grace, radiance and endless possibilities,” she added.

One of Melania Trump’s favourite designers, Hervé Pierre, the former creative director of Carolina Herrera, is in charge of the décor. The centrepiece, the official Christmas tree standing in the Blue Room (the reception area), is an 18-foot concolor fir from Sidney, Michigan. The magnificent tree commemorates Gold Star Families with gold star ornaments, and also features the official bird and flower of every US state and territory. This stands as “a tribute to the resilience, bravery and sacrifice of our military personnel and their families,” according to the White House. There are more than 50 Christmas trees throughout the White House.Blue butterflies for the Red Room
