Viral: Virat Kohli lights up the field by playfully touching Axar Patel's feet after he knocks out Williamson
India clinched a resounding victory against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy match yesterday, securing their spot in the semi-finals with an unbeaten record of the 3rd win in the series. Sunday's clash was not just about India's on-field mastery but also the entertaining antics of senior cricketer Virat Kohli who is popular for his high-energy presence on the field.
Kohli kept the spirits high amidst the pressure-filled moments with his playful and humorous actions which provided a much-needed comic relief, making the game memorable for both players and spectators.
The game saw India batting out a score of 249 runs against a determined New Zealand side under the leadership of Mitchell Santner. With Kane Williamson holding fort for the Kiwis' side, India's fielding unit was put through some serious tense moments. But Kohli's jovial nature helped ease the tension.
One such moment was when he conversed with Shreyas Iyer, who made a fielding error within the 30-yard circle. Iyer lost track of the ball at his feet, turned around in a daze, and took time to find it. Kohli, being the showman came up to Iyer in the next over, playfully mimicking his spin and leaving people in laughter.

India's grip on the match was tightened when Axar Patel picked up Kane Williamson in the 41st over. With Williamson's fall at 81, New Zealand's hopes of turning the game on a tough batting pitch began to evaporate. Kohli's high spirits were in full swing as he sprinted to Axar, touched his feet in a gesture of gratitude but playfulness, and celebrated the important breakthrough which more or less sealed India's victory in their last group-stage encounter.
Virat Kohli, who stood at short cover, was a live-wire during the entire match, stopping singles and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Towards the end, when India was closing in on victory, Kohli kept the fans amused with Cristiano Ronaldo's signature SIU celebration at the boundary rope in Dubai. His most entertaining antics were met with applause from the crowd.
With three consistent victories, India topped the Group and now sets sights on Australia in the semi-finals in Dubai. Kohli's high-voltage enthusiasm, along with the team's impressive performance, has paved the way for a thrilling knockout phase for team India.
India's game through the group stages has been full of skill and spirit, and Kohli's shenanigans have lent an added dimension of entertainment to their runaway success.
