Top five wealthiest states in India

A state’s per capita income plays a key factor in showcasing its economy as well as the overall growth. It highlights the average income of citizens, emphasizing the efficiency and effectiveness of governance, resources, and local industries. As per the latest report by the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, we have curated a list of the top 5 states in India based on the per capita income as a percentage of the national average. Let’s explore how these five states established their significantly unique economic identities that contribute to their remarkably high per capita income levels.

What is per capita income?

For the unversed, per capita income is a measure of the average income earned per person in a specific area, such as a country or region, within a given time period. It is calculated by dividing the total income of the area by its population. This metric helps to gauge the economic well-being of the population, providing insights into the standard of living and economic health. Higher per capita income typically indicates a higher standard of living, although it doesn’t account for income distribution disparities within the population. It’s a useful tool for comparing economic performance across different regions or countries.
