Not all success stories begin with privilege– some start with borrowed money, sleepless nights, and an unshakable belief in possibilities. In the heart of Prayagraj, a boatman and his family took a leap of faith ahead of Mahakumbh 2025, risking everything they had. They mortgaged gold, took out loans, and worked relentlessly to build a fleet of boats. What seemed like a gamble turned into a life-changing fortune– ₹30 crore in just 45 days.
A calculated risk that paid offAs per online media sources, Pintu Mahara, a boat operator in Prayagraj, wasn’t new to the business, but this time, he saw an opportunity far bigger than ever before. Remembering the earnings of boatmen during the 2019 Ardh Kumbh, he decided to expand his business for Mahakumbh 2025. But expansion needed investment– more than what he had.
Determined to make it work, Pintu and his family took bold steps. They took a bank loan and even mortgaged their jewelry to finance the construction of 70 boats, convinced that millions of pilgrims visiting Mahakumbh would require boat services.
Numbers that made headlinesHis vision turned into an extraordinary success. As per media reports, the boats played a crucial role in ferrying devotees, enhancing their experience at Mahakumbh. With over 66 crore people attending the grand event, business soared beyond expectations.
Media reports suggest that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the UP State Legislative Assembly, shared the remarkable story, saying, "A boatman's family, who owned several boats, earned a total of ₹30 crore in just 45 days during the Mahakumbh. This means each boat earned ₹23 lakh over the 45 days, translating to about ₹50,000-52,000 per day."
A team effort behind the successThis remarkable achievement wasn’t the result of one person’s efforts alone. Reports suggest that Pintu had a team of over 300 people working alongside him, ensuring that devotees had a seamless experience. From ferrying passengers to assisting with bathing arrangements and other necessary services, his team played a crucial role. They even provided some services free of charge to make the pilgrimage more convenient for visitors.
But success didn’t come easy. The long hours, physical strain, and unpredictable conditions took a toll on the team. According to media reports, many workers fell sick, but they refused to give up. "We had 250 people sailing the boats, and my brothers were with me every step of the way. It was hard work, but the experience was priceless," Pintu shared.
His mother, who stood by the family through all the ups and downs, expressed her emotions, saying, "We put in a lot of effort, and Ganga Maiyya listened to us."
Faith, leadership, and gratitudeFor Pintu, this was not just about business but also about faith and opportunity. According to media reports, he credited the government’s role in making Mahakumbh a success, adding, "After Mauni Amavasya, I felt the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Under the leadership of PM Modi and CM Yogi, the Mahakumbh became a grand success, making Prayagraj famous worldwide. Our business flourished, and we earned not just money, but the blessings of the people."
Meanwhile, CM Yogi dismissed the opposition’s claims that boatmen were exploited during the event, emphasizing that local workers and businesses greatly benefited from it, as per reports.
Looking ahead to the next MahakumbhEven after all the hard work and exhaustion, Pintu and his family are already excited for the next Mahakumbh, which will happen 12 years later. This experience has made them more confident and shown them that hard work really pays off.
For them, it wasn’t just about earning money– it was about believing in themselves, taking risks, and never giving up. With Mahakumbh 2025 bringing in record-breaking crowds, Pintu’s journey is a perfect example of how determination can turn dreams into reality.
