'This is TREASON': Australians outraged as Indians become highest immigrant group in the country for the first time ever

For years, the United Kingdom has maintained its position as the country supplying Australia with the highest number of foreign-born residents. India maintained steady at the second place in the list.

However, for the first time in what seems like decades, Indians have surpassed the Britishers to become the highest foreign-born immigrant group in the country.

New data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday revealed the number of Indian-born people to be an estimated 971,020 as of June 30, 2025. Comparatively, English-born residents were estimated to number 970,950 in June at the same time. In 2024, English-born residents led India-born residents at 923,560 to 916,330 respectively.

The Indian-born population has seen the largest increase in population since 2015 while the English-born population has gradually declined. As per historical data, since 1901, England has consistently formed the largest single cohort of foreign-born residents at any one time. Other countries slowly increasing population representation among the Aussies are China, New Zealand, Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, in descending order.

This record-breaking revelation of Indians surpassing the Britishers in Australia has caused much outrage in Land Down Under, echoing the anti-Indian sentiment growing in the island nation.


"Anyone with eyes can see it. It’s out of control… I’ve also witnessed Indians now in managerial positions only hiring other Indians. We are cooked," said one user on X (formerly Twitter).

"Nothing to be proud about.. Did anyone ask the Aussies who they wanted here.. my vote definitely wouldn’t have gone to the Indians.." wrote another.

"This is TREASON. I'm sick of being told brown-immigrants are "so much better than white people" by the oikophobic progressives. I'm sick of Indians, they are sub-human monkeys who have ZERO civic-sense & have a superiority complex about their culture & country; like MEXICANS," one said.

"They’re ****ing EVERYWHERE in their thousands … can’t stand the sight of them" wrote one.

Recently, the rhetoric on Indians in Australia has become increasingly negative. From trolling online to calling out government policies, people have been making their sentiment towards the immigrant Indian population known.

The creation of 'Little India' in Melbourne for $1.2M and 'House of India' in Queensland for $5.5M received major flak from Aussies online. Moreover, data revealed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in March 2026 revealed that in the year 2024-2025, more than 33,000 residents left Sydney while 8,600 abandoned Melbourne due to a flush in immigration levels in the cities.
