This is how these two Indian teenagers made it to Hurun Rich List for 2024
Meet Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra who have a networth of Rs 4,300 crore and ₹3,600 crore respectively and the duo were recently on the Hurun Rich List for 2024; at the ages of 22 and 21. Wondering how? Scroll down to find out.
Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra are the names behind Zepto, an online grocery delivery company, that was born during the pandemic. It is the brainchild of these two Indian teenagers who wanted to do something different. Let us take a look at the astounding success story of Zepto.
The year was 2021 and the Corona virus still ravaged away at the planet. Amidst all the chaos, two 19-year-olds conceptualized the idea of Zepto with a guarantee of "10-minute deliveries". Palicha and Vohra were both Stanford dropouts. They had enrolled in the Ivy league to pursue a Computer Science degree but left to pursue their hearts desire. During the pandemic, the demand for groceries and other essential commodities were sky high and even ordering them meant that one would receive them after a few days due to the high influx of orders. In short, there was a vacuum for instant delivery services which Aadit and Kaivalya both recognized and decided to capitalize on and thus, Zepto was born.
After a long search for investors and sharing their vision widely, momentum began to pick up in October 2021 as they raised $60 million in a round led by Glade Brook, Nexus, Lachy Groom, Y Combinator and Global Founders Capital in 2021 according to Business Today. They then went on to raise $100 million in December which brought the valuation of the company to $570 million.
Within a month of Zepto opening up shop, its value rose to $200 million and by the end of 2021, had completed 1 million orders. According to some industry reports, the process of placing the order with Zepto and pick up by delivery executive takes a total of 60 seconds which is a shockingly short time. Currently, the company has around 200 operational dark stores across all major cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and Kolkata.
Today, Zepto is a big player in the market, its current valuation is at $5 billion and its owners are the youngest Billionaires in India. It has a workforce of 1000+ workers and looking at current market trends, the company is set to reach a valuation of $37 billion by 2028. Its founders, Zepto's ingenious business model will ensure that the company only soars higher in the years to come.
Their success story defiantly stands as proof of what happens when one refuses to fit into a mold and follow their dreams instead. While yes, most youngsters are intimidated at the thought of funding their dreams and certainly it is not an easy task to raise millions based off of an idea, Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra have proven that while difficult, what you dream of is never entirely impossible.
