Sydney Sweeney might face legal trouble after climbing the Hollywood sign and hanging bras
Sydney Sweeney’s latest promotional stunt may have crossed a legal line. The Housemaid star is reportedly under scrutiny after allegedly climbing the iconic Hollywood Sign and hanging a string of bras from it as part of a promotional shoot for her lingerie brand, a venture that has reportedly attracted investment from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
The incident, which allegedly took place earlier this week, was captured on video and later obtained by TMZ. The video shows the Christy star climbing the iconic “H” under the cover of darkness, with a production crew filming the stunt as part of a planned promotional shoot.
However, what may have been intended as a bold marketing moment has now raised legal concerns.
According to TMZ, while Sweeney’s team did secure a permit from FilmLA to film near the Hollywood Sign, they did not have authorisation to touch or climb the structure itself, a key distinction that could carry consequences.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the intellectual property rights to the Hollywood Sign, has reportedly taken issue with the shoot. TMZ says it obtained an email sent by the Chamber addressing the production team behind the shoot.
In the message, the Chamber stated that it had become aware the sign was filmed for a production connected to Persuasion Pictures and clarified that neither the crew nor the production company had sought or received permission to use the images for commercial purposes.
The email further noted that while a FilmLA permit had been granted, the agency’s staff had informed the production that a separate licence from the Chamber was required prior to filming. The sender requested contact to “discuss this and work to reach an agreement” regarding the proposed use of the footage.
In a separate statement to TMZ, the Chair of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed the lack of approval, saying, “There was no permission granted to do this as is required.”
The unauthorised interaction with the sign could potentially expose those involved to criminal trespass or vandalism charges. However, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has not indicated whether it plans to pursue legal action at this stage.
Notably, the actress attended Jeff Bezos’ wedding last year, around the same time reports began circulating about her plans to launch a lingerie line backed by the billionaire, making the Hollywood Sign stunt, if confirmed, a particularly visible promotional move.
