Still have old currency notes? Here's how they can make you rich
Old is gold, quite literally! If you still possess some old currency notes and coins, they could be your ladder to luxury.
If your note or coin has the number 786 on it, then you can auction it online for prices between INR 3-4 lakh. This demand has surged in recent times and specifically for this number as it is considered auspicious in various religions such as Islam and Hinduism. As per a report by Navbharat Times (NBT), Rs 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 2000 rupees with this number on them can be sold for lakhs online. On websites such as OLX, Quikr, eBay and more, these notes are bought by people for lakhs.
While selling old notes and coins with the number 786 can be profitable, it’s essential to stay cautious. Verify buyers, avoid suspicious deals, and remember that the RBI does not facilitate such transactions. Stay informed and trade safely!
How to sell notes online
You'll first have to register on any of the online selling platforms as a seller. Take a clear picture of your note or coin and upload it on the website. Your advertisement to sell it will be visible to interested buyers who will contact you through the website. Why is the number 786 important?
As per Islam, the number 786 represents the numerical value of the phrase "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" which is the beginning sentence of Quran. However, in Hinduism the number means "Trimurti" which represents the three main lords of the religion, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. How to protect yourself from frauds?
It is important to note here that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has advised people to stay warned of fraudsters in these cases. It has warned people of "fictitious deals" offered by unscrupulous companies, persons using its name to sell or buy old coins and banknotes. Additionally, the bank itself does not associate with these matters and has also not authorised any person or institution to collect charges or carry out transactions on it's behalf. Ensure the identity and authenticity of the buyer in every case before pursuing any such transactions online. The central bank also clarified this in a statement made to the public in August 2024.While selling old notes and coins with the number 786 can be profitable, it’s essential to stay cautious. Verify buyers, avoid suspicious deals, and remember that the RBI does not facilitate such transactions. Stay informed and trade safely!
