While writing her wedding vows, especially the line, ‘In sickness and in health,’ the bride-to-be took a pause. That promise technically applies only after marriage.
A woman found herself in a predicament after her fiancé was suddenly laid off from his job. She was unsure whether or not to marry this guy since he is unemployed now. With the expenses of the wedding, honeymoon, and the upcoming expenses looming, she gave it a second thought. After all, she didn’t want all the costs to fall solely on her purse.
Where does one turn for advice in such uncertain times? Not friends, certainly not family, but of course the internet!
“Upcoming husband got laid off in Microsoft layoffs. Should I still marry him?” she asked. The woman also revealed that it's a pure arranged marriage. “It's an arranged marriage planned for Feb, he got laid off recently, and my family is aware of it. I'm not sure I should still marry him or not. My husband's TC 250k. PS. I'm in India presently,” she added.
Corporate employees being laid off without a warning is all too common in today’s job market. So that’s not really shocking. But here the woman had to choose whether or not to be a part of it.
In this situation, postponing the marriage is ok, but once he joins the job, they can't go on honeymoon ASAP. This is a very tough scenario. 3 things can happen here.
1) The man should secure a job first, have a late joining date to give a gap for marriage and honeymoon, and then join the new job.
2) The woman should marry him because his severance can finance them for marriage & honeymoon, the man can look for a job once back from honeymoon, and let the woman support the home.
“Wait a minute, Upcoming husband?” another user quipped.
“She’s marrying a complete stranger! Of course, she should be hesitant. This is the biggest problem with arranged marriage, marrying an NRI, or are we forgetting about the number of abandoned brides in India?” another said.
One user commented, “Taking a headache after marriage is different and honouring a commitment- avoiding a wrong start when you still have time is not wrong. I will advise her to hold off on the marriage for some time and make a decision.”
