Morning jogs are usually calm and refreshing, a way to start the day with energy. But for one Bengaluru woman, a routine run at Avalahalli forest became an experience that made her share the episode online, sparking a wider discussion about respect and behaviour in public spaces.

Boys’ remarks during the run

Ritika Suryavanshi shared a video on Instagram explaining that after completing her 5-kilometre run, she was walking towards the exit when a group of boys approached from the opposite direction. She said the boys, aged between 10 and 13, laughed and made comments in Kannada.

Although she does not understand the language, she said their intentions were clear. “If someone taunts you and laughs at you, you’ll understand,” she said.

Addressing her running clothes

Ritika spoke about her attire in the video. She was wearing a sports bra and tank top, which she considers normal for running. “There is nothing wrong with these clothes. I know it. It’s quite normal for me,” she said.

She added that she initially ignored them because they were children. “They are kids. What should I say to them? They’ll learn when they grow up,” she said.

Confronting the behaviour

The situation escalated when the boys allegedly stopped and made comments about her body. Ritika then turned back and scolded them, reminding them about manners and respect. “How is such a small kid entitled to pass a comment? This is not right,” she said.

Reflection after the incident

The experience left her thinking about personal choice and public behaviour. “Now should I think about small kids too? That I shouldn’t wear such clothes because kids can also pass comments?” she asked.
