Life moves fast with deadlines, doomscrolling, and endless noise. Sometimes, the best way to unwind isn't high-flying quests or high-stake roles; it's the gentle rhythm of everyday tasks.
Such games have taken social media by storm, helping people shed off stress just by doing simple daily tasks through simulators.
What are mundane job simulators?
Mundane job simulators let players perform routine chores like power-washing patios or mowing lawns, delivering zen-like satisfaction. PowerWash Simulator (2021) has sold over 17 million copies, with its 2025 sequel earning BAFTA nominations for Family and British Game.
Players grab gear to blast dirt from gas stations, funhouses, or Adventure Time's BMO console until everything gleams absolutely clean, and it feels like bliss to rinse and repeat.

FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden likens it to "the Graham Norton of video games," saying, "Graham Norton doesn't make you feel stupid, but you also don't have to think too hard. It engages the right amount of brain, and at the end of it you go, 'Oh, that was really pleasant.'" Rigden told BBC News the game blocks distractions for "a pure form of meditation," inspired by her YouTube power-wash binges.
Lawn Mowing Simulator is also quite similar, letting users run a British countryside business with licensed mowers.
Its sequel, Lawn Mowing Simulator 2, includes gameplay in American trailer parks and town halls.
These games come as mental health wins and record setters
These titles shine for streamers. Markiplier's 2021 PowerWash video hit 9 million views. Comedian Ellie Gibson set a Guinness World Record with 24 hours, 6 minutes, 33 seconds of gameplay. She streamed after a friend's recommendation, comparing it to "colouring books or knitting," adding, "You get the finished result of a clean monster truck, rather than a scarf." A "nightmarish" 4 a.m. playground clean turned psychedelic due to bright colours, according to Guinness World Records.
According to the game’s parent company, FuturLab, an Oxford study with 8,600+ players found a 72% mood uplift. Researcher Nick Ballou noted, "These games are particularly suitable for people with low energy, and they're really effective in absorbing attention. I do think playing them can be more mindful than other games that require lots of cognitive engagement."
