Shared by a forest officer on X, the clip shows fields covered in a thick layer of ice, almost like a snowy blanket. His caption pretty much summed up everyone’s reaction: “Not Kashmir. This is Bikaner.” And honestly, it’s hard to believe otherwise when you see it.

This dramatic weather shift comes after a western disturbance hit parts of Rajasthan over the last 24 hours, bringing hailstorms, gusty winds, and light rain along with it. Places like Sri Ganganagar’s Padampur recorded rainfall, while Bikaner saw the most surprising transformation with hail piling up across open fields.

What makes this even more bizarre is the timing. Around this time last year, Bikaner was dealing with peak summer heat, touching close to 40°C. This year? Temperatures have dropped to around 30°C, with rain and hailstorms thrown into the mix. That’s a pretty big shift for one of India’s driest regions.

The local weather department has already issued a yellow warning, hinting that this isn’t a one-off. More rain and hailstorm activity could follow over the next few days, especially around April 7 and 8. Several parts of the state—including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and Udaipur—are also expected to see thunderstorms and strong winds.

For locals, though, the viral visuals come with a bit of worry too. Hailstorms like these can damage crops, and there are already calls for crop insurance support.
