Nobel Peace Prize: How much money does the winner get
The world awaits the announcement of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, and the buzz surrounding the award has reached a fever pitch. The conversation about the prize has been all over social media, and much of the attention this year has been caused by speculation around some high-profile names, including former US President Donald Trump, who has openly spoken about why he believes he deserves the honour.
With 338 nominations this year, including 244 individuals and 94 organisations, there is a lot of discussion about the popular names nominated for the prize and the awards that come with it.
Among these, the Nobel Peace Prize has a unique character. Unlike the others, which are awarded in Sweden, the Peace Prize is presented in Oslo, Norway, on the specific instruction in Nobel’s will.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate receives:
Though all Nobel medals feature Alfred Nobel’s image, the peace medal, designed by Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland, shows him in a distinct pose compared to the others.
Over time, the scope of this interpretation has evolved. As per the official Nobel Prize website, post-WWII Peace Prize efforts tend to fall under four themes:
Arms control and disarmament
“The Nobel Peace Prize is a bit different to the other prizes because good deeds, being a good person, doing the right thing, is what we are looking for,” said committee member Asle Toje in 2022 “We're not looking for pound-by-pound intelligence.”, according to the nobel peace prize website.
Although the official list remains confidential, several names have made headlines due to public nominations and political endorsements.
One of the most talked-about figures is Donald Trump, who has actively promoted his case for the prize. Backed by figures like Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and US Congressman Buddy Carter, Trump was nominated for helping broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. However, some of these nominations reportedly came after the February deadline.
The late Pope Francis was also nominated for his work promoting peace and fraternity; however, no Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded posthumously till date.
Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, currently in jail, has been nominated for his work in democracy and human rights by the Pakistan World Alliance and Norway’s Partiet Sentrum.
Elon Musk was put forward by a Slovenian politician for defending free speech, while Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim was recognised for his diplomatic efforts in Southeast Asia, especially in regional peace talks.

What are the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize
Interestingly, the Peace Prize does not follow strict criteria. According to Alfred Nobel’s will, the prize should be awarded to those who have, “...done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”Over time, the scope of this interpretation has evolved. As per the official Nobel Prize website, post-WWII Peace Prize efforts tend to fall under four themes:

- Peace negotiation
- Democracy and human rights
- Building a more peaceful and organised world
“The Nobel Peace Prize is a bit different to the other prizes because good deeds, being a good person, doing the right thing, is what we are looking for,” said committee member Asle Toje in 2022 “We're not looking for pound-by-pound intelligence.”, according to the nobel peace prize website.
