Meet Sanjay Vishwakarma, the ‘Pin Man’, who has kept 150 metal pins in his mouth for 45 years

The world is full of strange habits, and the Guinness World Records are proof of that - from wild body tricks to weird human feats.

But this one feels straight out of a movie. A 58-year-old man from Satna in Madhya Pradesh has spent most of his life carrying more than 150 sharp metal pins inside his mouth.

What started as a quick fix to remove betel nut stuck between his teeth slowly turned into a habit that never went away.

People in his town now call him the “Pin Man.” Even doctors who’ve examined him admit they were stunned. After more than four decades, there are still no cuts, sores, or infections where he keeps the pins.

And yes, they’re sharp.

Who is Sanjay Vishwakarma?

Sanjay Vishwakarma is a resident of Satna, Madhya Pradesh. He’s been carrying around 150 metal pins in his mouth for nearly 45 years, according to reports by India Today.

He picked up the habit as a teenager. Back then, he chewed paan regularly and bits of betel nut would get stuck between his teeth. He first used matchsticks to clean them out, but they kept breaking. One day, he tried using an iron pin instead.

After he was done, he casually placed the pin inside his mouth. That small moment ended up turning into something he’s done every day since.

One pin became many

Over time, one pin turned into dozens. Today, he keeps iron, steel, and brass pins tucked inside his mouth almost all the time.

What’s even stranger? He says he’s never bought a single pin in his life. According to India Today, Sanjay says he picks them up wherever he sees them - at a tailor’s shop, in offices, or lying around on tables - and slips them into his mouth without thinking much about it.

Living with pins in his mouth

Despite having dozens of sharp pins inside his mouth, Sanjay goes about his day normally. He eats, drinks, talks, and even sleeps with them still in place, as reported by Navbharat Times.

People around him have gotten used to it over the years. Some even bring him extra pins now, knowing he collects them.

What’s wild is that he doesn’t take them out even when brushing his teeth.

He once worried about getting caught at airport security because of all the metal in his mouth. But he passed through the metal detector without any alarm going off - which only added to the mystery around his habit.

What doctors found

When dentist Dr Ashwani Kumar Trivedi from Jabalpur examined Sanjay, he found no cuts, wounds, or infections in the area where the pins sit, according to India Today.

Reports shared by NDTV say that while Sanjay’s mouth shows damage linked to years of paan and lime use, the pins themselves haven’t caused visible injury to his oral tissue. The area where he stores them has somehow stayed intact.

Doctors say the case is medically fascinating. Most people can’t tolerate even holding one sharp object in their mouth for a second. Sanjay has been doing it for decades.
