Late-night hero: Bengaluru cab driver goes door to door to return passenger’s lost bag with passport, PR card and wallet
Not every good story needs to be loud. Some stand out quietly and still leave an impression. A heartwarming example from Bengaluru is doing the rounds online, showing that honesty and integrity still exist. It is about a cab driver who went out of his way to help a passenger and saved him from a huge problem.
The story begins after a late-night ride from Kempegowda International Airport. Glen Ivan, a Vancouver-based founder, got home around 2:30 am. Exhausted from travel, he went straight to sleep.
In his tired state, he did not realise he had left his sling bag in the Uber. The bag contained important items like his passport, PR card, wallet, and other documents. He only discovered it the next morning around 10:30 am when his father asked about the documents.
The Uber driver, Uttam, found the bag after the ride. Instead of ignoring it or waiting for a call, he decided to return it himself.
Since he did not have clear contact information, Uttam went back to the area where he had dropped Glen. He knocked on doors and asked people in the neighbourhood if they knew the passenger. He spent over an hour searching.
By chance, he met Glen’s father on the street, which allowed him to safely return the bag with everything intact.
Glen later shared the story on Instagram, publicly thanking the driver. He wrote:
“Meet Uttam, a true Bengaluru hero. At 2:30 AM, after the long trek back from KIA, I finally got home and crashed. In my sleep-deprived state, I left my sling bag in Uttam's cab with my passport, PR card, wallet, etc. I didn't even realise it was missing until 10:30 AM when my dad asked if I'd lost my documents.”
He added how much effort the driver put in:
“He spent over an hour knocking on doors and checking with neighbours to find me. By a stroke of luck, he bumped into my dad on the street.”
Getting the bag back saved Glen from months of hassle. Replacing documents like a passport and PR card can take ages. Glen explained how grateful he felt:
“Uttam saved me from a massive bureaucratic nightmare and months of stress. I am so humbled by his honesty and the extra mile he went literally and figuratively. A man of real integrity.”
The post got many reactions from social media users who appreciated the driver’s honesty.
One person wrote:
“Dude, that's unbelievable. Nice to see real love and care shared from one human to another.”
Another commented:
“He is truly one of a kind; his kindness is so very greatly appreciated. God bless him and his family.”
Others said:
“Thanks for championing Uttam and this story!”
“What an amazing human. Glad you got all your stuff back that would have sucked losing your passport and PR card.”
“The world needs more Uttams.”
Many people expressed relief that all the documents were returned safely.
Uttam did not have to go door to door searching for the passenger, but he chose to do it anyway. That small act saved someone from months of stress.
In a busy city like Bengaluru, this simple act of honesty stood out and touched many hearts.
