Last Google doodle of 2023 rings in the New Year with colours and sparkles
As the year 2023 comes to an end, Google has unveiled its last doodle of the year, celebrating the arrival of 2024 with a colourful and sparkling display. The doodle, which is visible on Google's homepage across the world, features the letters of the word Google in different shapes and sizes, adorned with festive lights and confetti. The letter O in the middle is replaced by a sparkling disco ball with a cute little smile, symbolizing the celebrations being ushered in the different parts of the world.
Google has captioned it, "3… 2… 1… Happy New Year!" and hovering over the doodle displays a New Year's Eve 2023 message.
They added, "This Doodle brings some sparkle and shine to start off New Year right! As the clock nears closer and closer to midnight, people around the world are planning their new year’s resolutions and wishing for success, love, joy, and everything in between."
The doodle also has an interactive element, as clicking on it leads to a page where users can learn and explore various New Year traditions and customs from different countries around the world. The fun little confetti feature is also a sweet treat as it fills your screen with bursts of colour just like a real party popper would, when clicked on and the shining disco ball spins happily in the centre.
Google has been creating doodles since 1998, when its founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin modified the logo to indicate their attendance at the Burning Man festival. Since then, Google has created over 4,000 doodles, celebrating various events, holidays, anniversaries, and personalities. Some of the most popular doodles of 2023 include the ones commemorating the 100th birthday of legendary singer Ella Fitzgerald, the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, and the 150th anniversary of the periodic table of elements.
Google's last doodle of 2023 is a fitting tribute to the year that was, as well as a hopeful gesture for the year that will be. As the world prepares to welcome 2024, Google invites its users to join in the celebration and share their wishes and resolutions for the new year. Happy New Year from Google!
