Justin Trudeau vs Mark Carney: Who stands taller, literally?
The time of Trudeau is up.
As Trudeau prepares to leave his throne, Mark Carney is ready to succeed him as the next Prime Minister of Canada. The money man, who comes from an economic background, is set to take his political career to another height as he sets out to become the 24th PM of Canada.
Talking about heights, let’s take a look at the stats we have in hand.
Mark Carney:
The Labour Party candidate who garnered 86% of the votes from party members to beat former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and is set to become the next prime minister of Canada, started his career in the financial sector.
Mark Joseph Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, raised in Edmonton, Alberta, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University in 1988. He went on to study at the University of Oxford, where he earned a master's degree in 1993 and a doctorate in 1995. He held various roles at Goldman Sachs before joining the Bank of Canada as a deputy governor in 2003. He served as the eighth governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the 120th governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.
Justin Trudeau:
The son of former Prime Minister Pierre James Trudeau and a remarkable Prime Minister himself, Justin Pierre James Trudeau has been the 23rd and current prime minister of Canada since 2015. He was the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada from 2013 to 2025 and has served as a member of Parliament (MP) for Papineau since 2008. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, as the eldest son of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Justin attended Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from McGill University and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia. After graduating, he taught at the secondary school level in Vancouver before returning to Montreal in 2002 to further his studies. He was chair for the youth charity Katimavik and director of the not-for-profit Canadian Avalanche Association. In 2006, he was appointed as chair of the Liberal Party's Task Force on Youth Renewal. In the 2008 federal election, he was elected to represent the riding of Papineau in the House of Commons. He was the Liberal Party's Official Opposition critic for youth and multiculturalism in 2009; in 2010, he became the critic for citizenship and immigration. In 2011, he was appointed as a critic for secondary education and sport. In 2013, Trudeau was elected as the leader of the Liberal Party and led the party to a majority government in the 2015 federal election. He became the second-youngest prime minister in Canadian history and the first to be the child of a previous prime minister.
Trudeau is reportedly 1.88 m tall, which is taller than the average height of Canadian men. It might be noteworthy that Trudeau is taller than Carney, who is going to succeed him as the next Prime Minister of Canada.
