An Indian teen boy, Lalit Patidar has made history by claiming the Guinness World Record for the hairiest face of any man, with an incredible 201.72 hair per square centimeter according to Guinness World Records. His record-breaking face is a result of a rare medical condition called hypertrichosis, which is also commonly known as ‘werewolf syndrome’ because it results in an abnormal growth of hair all over the body and face. Over 95% of his face is covered with hair because of this disorder, rendering him different from the vast majority of people on Earth.
Hypertrichosis is an exceptionally rare disorder with only some 50 documented cases across the globe since the Middle Ages.
It leads to excessive abnormal growth of hair and may occur in the whole body or just a portion of the body, even the face. Lalit's case is unusual, and it has drawn interest from all over the world.
Indian teen sets Guinness World Record for hairiest face after facing early challenges
Lalit's life wasn't always simple. Reflecting on his childhood, he discussed how he overcame the issues, particularly the school challenges at an early age. His peers were also frightened and confused when they first saw him. Over time, they came to understand that Lalit was not the entirety of what individuals thought when they gazed at him because he was like any other person in character. Lalit recalls, "When they started to know me, when they started to talk to me, they understood that I was not so different from them. And only on the outside did I seem different, but I'm not different on the inside."
Despite his adversity, Lalit is now a self-acceptance activist. Although sometimes he receives rude comments, he emphasizes that they are not frequent, and the majority of people are polite to him. "There is not much to say to people about that. I tell them that I like the way I am and I don't want to change my look," Lalit explained.
Lalit receives official recognition of his world record in Milan
Lalit traveled recently to Milan, Italy, to appear on Lo Show dei Record, a leading television program upon which he underwent an official review to authenticate his Guinness World Record. The man's trichologist (expert in hairs and scalp) was carefully measuring his beard density by shaving small patches of hair so that he might obtain the number of hairs in a centimeter square. When Lalit received official notice about officially shattering the record, he was immensely thrilled. "I'm speechless, I don't know what to say because I'm extremely happy to receive this recognition," he said, glowing with joy at being officially recognized for his unique achievement.
Lalit's growing social media influence and support from family
Besides his world record, Lalit has also gained a huge following on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. With over 265,000 followers on Instagram and 108,000 YouTube subscribers, Lalit has turned his own tale into something inspirational for millions. He updates his audience from time to time about what is happening in his life, communicating to them that being special in no way suggests that they need to compare themselves to others.
His videos and images continue to turn the society around and propagate acceptance and love by himself. Throughout his life, Lalit has been supported by his family, who have stood by him through thick and thin and never discouraged him from being himself. Despite his challenges, Lalit dreams of traveling the world and experiencing different cultures without fear of what other people would say regarding his appearance. His family support has enabled him to overcome the challenges that come with having such a distinctive appearance.
