“I am spitting blood from my mouth and…”: Bengaluru resident shares spine-chilling Delhi NCR experience
A personal experience shared online has once again pushed air quality into public conversation, not through official reports or expert opinions, but through simple, lived reality. A Reddit post by a Bengaluru-based user, written in clear and emotional words, has drawn wide attention after the user described how a short stay in Delhi NCR affected their health. The post slowly gained traction because it spoke about something many people quietly deal with but rarely articulate.
What made the post stand out was its honesty. There was no attempt to exaggerate or accuse. The Reddit user only spoke about what they felt in their own body and how the experience made them miss their home city deeply. As more people read the post, the comment section turned into a space for reflection, disagreement, and shared experiences, all centred around daily life and health in Indian cities.
In the Reddit post, the user said they had travelled to Delhi NCR to attend a wedding and had been staying there for nearly 20 days. They explained that health issues began soon after arrival.
“I am here in Delhi NCR for a wedding for the last 20 days, and I am spitting blood from my mouth, and when I blow my nose, I get blood, I mean a lot of bloody phlegm,” the user wrote.
They added that a cold developed from the very first day and continued to worsen instead of improving. Sharing how alarming the situation felt, the user said, “Never have I seen so much blood from my nose in my life so far.”
The post also described how normal daily movement outside had become uncomfortable. According to the Reddit user, even short outings seemed to trigger the same symptoms again.
“Going out here in NCR is like breathing gas, and I come home with a runny nose and blood again just when I thought it was over,” the user wrote.
As the discomfort continued, the user made it clear that they wanted to return home as soon as possible. “I badly want to return to Bengaluru,” they said.
The user also explained why they chose not to post the experience in Delhi NCR-focused online communities. They felt their concerns would not be received positively there.
“I can’t post this in those NCR subs; it would only get negative replies. Better to post here and appreciate Bengaluru than there,” the user wrote.
The post was shared with the title, “I miss Bengaluru and its air quality”.
As the post gained attention, several users responded by questioning the comparison between the two cities.
“For real? Bengaluru’s AQI is also not good. People around me are coughing and experiencing asthma-like symptoms because of smog. It may not be as bad as Delhi, but we are not much better here,” one user commented.
Another shared a similar view, saying, “Compared to Delhi, Bengaluru may seem better, but in reality, the air quality in the city has been quite dismal over the past few days.”
Alongside criticism, many users shared their own health experiences after spending time in Delhi and nearby areas.
“I experienced the same symptoms, but only after a week in Delhi and Agra. I suffered a severe throat infection that took two weeks to recover from after returning to Bengaluru,” one commenter wrote.
Some responses were brief but empathetic. “That’s really sad to know,” one user commented.
Another reflected on how people often realise the comfort of their home city only after leaving it. “When you live in Bengaluru, you do not realise the value of its weather. Visit any other Indian city, and you will immediately notice the difference,” the user wrote.
