While Marabella supposedly reaped the rewards of her deceitful schemes, Larry Gilmore, her employer, was oblivious to the huge amount of money being lost. Larry Gilmore's drive to work became a scene out of a crime novel when he spotted a purple Lamborghini—the same one that his ex-employee had bought with pilfered funds. Soon after, a Chevrolet Suburban smashed into his Porsche, staging an unbelievable ambush. Two men got out, one of whom was acting as if apologizing before the other slipped behind him and into a chokehold and pulled him into a vehicle.
Zip-tied, hooded, and robbed of his phone, Gilmore was taken to a desert area, where he was assaulted and kept at gunpoint. And who was his abductor? No less than William Costa, Marabella's husband of more than a decade. Costa presented him with two ominous options: either inform the IRS that the loot was a "gift" or suffer violent retribution.
Not intimidated by death threats, Gilmore seized his opportunity—and marched straight to the police. Costa was arrested, and his $1.5 million bail reflected how serious the offense now was.
