How biscuits played a notable role in Srinagar’s anti-terror operation

A recent anti-terror operation in Srinagar successfully ended with the death of Usman, a leader of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The operation took place in the busy Khanyar area and was carefully planned to avoid harming civilians. But an unexpected problem was solved with a surprising solution- - biscuits.

Usman was a significant figure in LeT, responsible for several attacks in Kashmir, including the shooting of a police officer in 2023. After training in Pakistan, he returned to Kashmir and became a target for security forces. When his location was confirmed, a joint operation by the police and CRPF was launched to capture or kill him.

During the operation, security forces faced an unexpected problem: stray dogs. The dogs might have barked and warned Usman, which could have ruined the mission. To handle this, the forces used the remarkably clever idea of using biscuits to distract the dogs. This kept the dogs quiet and allowed the special forces to get closer without being noticed.

The operation began early in the morning, with security forces surrounding 30 homes. Usman, armed with guns and grenades, fought back. After hours of gunfire, some grenades exploded, starting a fire in the house where Usman was hiding. The fire was controlled, and after more fighting, Usman was killed.

Four security officers were injured but are in stable condition. The mission was a huge and well-deserved win, significantly weakening LeT and its local branch, The Resistance Front (TRF).

This operation shows how security forces are adapting to new challenges. While planning and force are important, being able to think quickly and find solutions, like using a simple but incredibly clever idea of using biscuits for the dogs, made the mission a success. This ability to adapt will continue to be important for future operations in Kashmir.
