He holds 138 degrees at 55: Rajasthan ex-Army man sets 11 world records – his inspiring story

In a world where most people focus on completing education once and moving ahead in life, a story from Rajasthan is catching quiet attention for a very different reason. It is about someone who did not treat education as a one-time phase but as a continuous part of life that never really stopped. Over the years, his academic journey has progressed gradually, encompassing a wide range of subjects and qualifications.

This is the story of Dashrath Singh from Jhunjhunu district, whose educational path has been long and steady, spanning from his Army days to life after retirement.

Roots in a rural background

As reported by PTI, Dashrath Singh belongs to the Khirod village in Nawalgarh tehsil. He comes from a farming family where formal education was not common in earlier generations.

“Despite no educational background in my family, I began my studies at a small village school. After completing Class 10 from a government school, pursuing college education seemed like a distant dream due to financial constraints,” says Singh, as quoted.

His early journey reveals the challenges he faced in pursuing continuing education, yet also his determination to persevere.

Army service and the learning mindset

In 1988, Singh joined the Indian Army and served for around 16 years in different regions, including Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Even during service, education remained on his mind.

Singh, who hails from a farming family, says he always felt his education was “incomplete” while in the service. This feeling motivated him to continue studying even during the service.

He used his limited spare time during service to stay connected with studies.

As highlighted in the report, whenever his annual two-month leave arrived, he took advantage of the break to study. And, after retirement, he vigorously pursued his passion.

Academic journey after retirement

After retiring in 2004, Singh focused fully on education. He continued to add qualifications one after another through regular study and distance learning from different institutions.

“I first obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree, followed by an LLB, LLM, BJMC, and B.Ed. as a regular student, while pursuing other qualifications through IGNOU, Jain Vishva Bharati Institute, and private universities,” shares Singh, as quoted by PTI.

Over time, his list of academic achievements expanded significantly.

He has completed three PhDs, seven undergraduate degrees, 46 postgraduate degrees, 23 diplomas, seven degrees related to military studies, and 52 certificates across various fields.

His latest qualification is a master's degree in Vedic studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University, where he achieved distinction.

Claims of recognition in record books

As mentioned in the PTI report, Singh also states that his academic achievements have received recognition. He claims to have 11 world records related to education, including entries in the India Book of Records, Golden Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records, and International Book of Records. These claims have not been independently verified.

A second career in legal work

For Singh, education was not only about academic growth but also about building a professional role after his Army service.

“After retirement, I felt the need to contribute to soldiers' welfare. I pursued a law degree and began practicing,” explains Singh, who later worked as a legal advisor at the Army's Sapta Shakti Command and deals with cases related to serving and retired personnel.
