From Prince of Persia to Assassin’s Creed titles: Check out the revealed cancellation list
The gaming industry is going through a phase of tough decisions, and one of its biggest players has now made a major move. French video game company Ubisoft, has cancelled six upcoming titles as part of what it is calling a “major reset” of its business.
Among the scrapped projects is the much-discussed remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The announcement had an immediate financial impact. On 22 January 2026, Ubisoft’s shares fell by 33% after the news became public, as reported by the BBC.
According to a February 13, 2026 report by Insider Gaming, the following six games have been cancelled or affected:
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake - First announced in 2020, the project has now been officially scrapped.
Project Aether - In development since 2019, reportedly at Ubisoft Halifax. While cancelled, it is understood to have evolved into a newer internal project.
Project Pathfinder - Previously known as Project U.
Project Crest - A World War 2 extraction shooter.
Assassin’s Creed Rebellion - Support for the game has been stopped.
Assassin’s Creed Singularity - A new mobile Assassin’s Creed title that was also planned for PC. It had reportedly been in development for several years.
Out of these, the Prince of Persia remake was the only widely known and publicly anticipated title.
The original 2003 release had sold millions of copies and built a strong fan base. Given that remakes have recently performed well, including new versions of Super Mario Galaxy, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the cancellation has surprised many fans.
According to Ubisoft’s leadership, the decision is aimed at long-term sustainability.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the move would “create the conditions for a return to sustainable growth.”
As quoted by the BBC, he acknowledged the difficulty of the decision. “While these decisions are difficult, they are necessary for us to build a more focused, efficient, and sustainable organization over the long term.”
He described the moment as a turning point. “Taken together, these measures mark a decisive turning point for Ubisoft and reflect our determination to confront challenges head-on to reshape the Group for the long term.”
Explaining the broader industry challenge, he added, “On the one hand, the triple-A industry has become persistently more selective and competitive, with rising development costs and greater challenges in creating brands.”
At the same time, he noted that successful blockbuster titles can bring “more financial potential than ever.”
He summed it up by saying, “In this context, today we are announcing a major reset built to create the conditions for a return to sustainable growth over time.”
As part of the restructuring, Ubisoft has closed two studios, one in Stockholm, Sweden, and another in Halifax, Canada.
The Halifax studio had reportedly been working on Project Aether and mobile titles linked to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In addition, three other studios will undergo restructuring.
This is not the first time Ubisoft has taken such steps. In 2025, the company cut 185 jobs across Europe. In the UK, it shut its office in Leamington and restructured its Newcastle-upon-Tyne operations.
