From boarding calls to panic cries: Passengers freeze after spotting a 7-foot Indian rat snake inside Mumbai airport

The usual rush at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport took quite an unexpected turn on Thursday, February 19. People were busy with their bags, boarding passes, and last-minute calls, and then suddenly, everyone’s attention shifted to something no one saw coming.

According to a report by India Today, a seven-foot Indian rat snake was spotted calmly resting on top of an air conditioner near Gate 3 of Air India in Vile Parle East.

Instead of announcements about flights, people were whispering about a giant snake sitting right above them. Someone recorded a video, and within hours, it was all over social media.

Seven-foot snake leaves passengers stunned

Passengers waiting near the gate could hardly believe what they were seeing. The snake wasn’t attacking anyone. It wasn’t even moving much. It was just… there. Quietly resting on the AC unit.

Still, seeing a reptile that big inside one of the country’s busiest airports was enough to make people panic. Airports are the last place where you expect wildlife, especially a snake of that size. Naturally, people were scared and confused about how it even got there.

Rescue team rushes to the spot

As soon as airport staff noticed the snake, help was called. According to media reports, members of the animal welfare NGO Aasha: The Hope For Animals Welfare Trust reached the spot quickly and managed the situation.

They handled the situation carefully and managed to rescue the snake safely. Later, it was released back into its natural habitat. Thankfully, no one was hurt, not the passengers, and not the snake.

The video spread rapidly across social media. As expected, the reactions were mixed.
