Dubai hotel wins over Indian guests with poha, jet spray and hindi TV channels
Indians, even when traveling thousands of miles away, instinctively search for little pieces of home—be it in the food they eat, the language they hear, or yes, even the kind of washroom fixtures they’re used to. This cultural craving recently got a hilarious spotlight thanks to stand-up comedian Sorabh Pant, who shared a now-viral video showing just how “desi” a four-star hotel in Dubai really is.
Pant, who was staying at Majestic City Retreat Hotel, couldn’t help but highlight how the hotel seemed designed almost entirely with Indian tourists in mind.
“When your international hotel is basically Indian,” Pant wrote alongside the video, which opens with a sweeping view of the Dubai skyline.
“Breakfast buffet has poha, Jain poha, 19 parathas, 18 types of rajma, dosas,” he narrated, walking viewers through the lavish spread of Indian dishes that would put many domestic hotels to shame.
And the desi touches didn’t stop there.
The hotel played Hindi news channels on its in-room TVs and had IPL-themed decor adorning its sports bar—making it feel more like a lounge in Mumbai than one in Dubai.
But what really sealed the deal for Indian viewers was the small but telling detail that Pant shared with comic delight: the hotel’s bathroom had a jet spray alongside a bidet. No more awkward water bottle maneuvers or uncomfortable paper-only situations—this was comfort, desi-style.
In perhaps the most relatable and amusing moment of the clip, Pant pointed to the wall clock in the room and revealed, “It’s a Sonata from Big Bazaar.”
The video has since struck a chord with Indian audiences online, many of whom know all too well the comfort of finding their culture—intentionally or not—reflected abroad.
One user hilariously quipped, “You are in the most Indian locality of Dubai, which is more indian than India. Habibi come here in Diwali.” Another user said, “You are at bandra - khar distance from bur dubai. Of course everything is going to be indian.”
The hotel itself replied to the post and wrote, “Thank you for visiting us. We are proud to be Desi in a Videsi environment.”
