Dogecoin creator Billy Markus turns down Elon Musk after he offers him a job at DOGE
Looks like, it’s quite lonely at the top!
When the Dogecoin creator turned away a job at DOGE!
What the GenZ would tag as a ‘banter’ unfolded between Elon Musk and Billy Markus, steered a row in the community as the latter turned down a much-coveted opportunity.
What happened?
A few hours after a labor union accused the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.) of posting a job opportunity that contradicted federal laws, the Tech Mogul, Tesla CEO, and X owner Elon Musk seems to have taken to personal recruitment.
Now that post caught the attention of Musk and he ended up offering him a job at the D.O.G.E. He asked if he was willing to work for the government efficiency parastatal, noting that the collaboration would be perfect.
Musk’s tweet said, “Wanna work at @DOGE? Would be kinda perfect.”
Although it was none but Elon Musk offering him a job, Markus did not seem interested. Adding a crying while laughing emoji at the beginning of his tweet, he wrote, “that would be pretty full circle.” Markus added, “tbh i wanna chill for awhile so i can actually accomplish some of my personal goals.” However, he mentioned, “but we will see where i’m at in like 6 months.” The last part of his tweet explained that Markus did not entirely rule out the possibility of working for the DOGE.
The internet reacts:
Musk and Markus’ conversation sparked reactions from the Dogecoin community, which pleaded that Markus take the job.
For context, one comment appreciated the Dogecoin founder’s stance but persuaded him to “do it for the fun of it.” Another user stated that it must be fate for the Dogecoin founder to work for D.O.G.E., encouraging Markus to consider the offer.
Meanwhile, another reaction commended Markus for declining the offer, noting it was pretty logical. He hinged his argument on the delicacy of the role and the Dogecoin founder’s inexperience.
Interestingly, Musk has continued to express admiration for Dogecoin and its ecosystem. Although the Tesla CEO once noted that there is nothing serious between him and Dogecoin, he has not hidden his love for the meme coin.
Who is Billy Markus?
Billy Markus is an American software engineer who co-created Dogecoin in 2013 with his friend Jackson Palmer. It began as a joke poking fun at the volatility of conventional cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. The two decided that the joke would do well against serious cryptocurrencies.
Before working on Dogecoin, Billy was one of the leading software engineers at IBM (International Business Machines) Corporation, a multinational computing company that creates and sells software, hardware, clouds, and data.
Dogecoin officially launched on December 6th, 2013.
