Chinese man goes viral for the unique way of tackling robbery in Spain: Watch video
When you are travelling abroad, one of the first things you need to be aware of is your own safety and that of your belongings. While it's not necessary that they may be stolen, no country is free of theft, which forms the most common crime in most. While you can always report robbery to the police, they may take time to respond and in this circumstance, it is important that you can handle the situation on your own.
A Chinese man travelling in Barcelona, Spain is going viral for his unique way of tackling a robber who was attempting to steal his camera from him. In the video going viral on the internet, the man can be seen having the robber in a chokehold with both lying on the ground. He had both his arms folded around the thief's neck, who could be seen thrashing and asking for the passes-by for help. It was only when the police arrived at the scene that the Chinese man let the thief go as the gathered crowd applauded his brave act. The police dragged him away and moved on to cuff him and take him away.
Many on X, commended the Chinese man for his heroic act, adding that the thief got what he deserved. “Good job. He got what he was asking for. Hope he gets deported,” wrote a person. “Kudos to this man. Citizens around the world need to take notice. Stop letting evil prosper” added another.
In 2022, the nationwide robbery in Spain was 133.65 cases per 100,000 of the population. While it was a significant decrease from the levels of 2012, it still is a rampant crime in the country. In 2024, Sir Ben Ainslie, five-time Olympic champion was robbed of his £16K Rolex by a Barcelona watch gang on knifepoint. “Barcelona is a fantastic host city for the America's Cup, and the team has felt welcomed and is enjoying our stay in this vibrant city. Like in all big cities, you can be affected by opportunistic crime, and my situation is no different. This matter is now with the local authorities,” said the sailor to The Telegraph.
