‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Homicide’ fame actor Andre Braugher passed away on Monday, December 11. The two-time Emmy winner was 61 years old and was suffering from a ‘brief illness’ for the past few months. As his death came as a huge shock to his fans, netizens online are now remembering his role as Captain Raymond Holt.

The actor was majorly known for his role in ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, but rose to fame with his performance as detective Frank Pembleton in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street.’ The actor also received an Emmy award for his performance in 1998. However, fans became a fan of Raymond Holt in eight seasons, after witnessing his performance in ‘Homicide.’


For his exceptional comic performance, the latter won two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The late actor received four Emmy nominations as well. Andre Braugher recently was seen in the New York Times drama, ‘She Said.’ The series talks about the Harvey Weinstein scandal.



Braugher graduated from the esteemed Stanford University and attended the Juilliard School in the drama division. Andre’s first screen role was in ‘Glory’, where he portrayed the role of a Union soldier, Thomas Searles. He was a free Black man who joined the first Black regiment. He then was seen as a sidekick in the TV movie revival of ‘Kojak’, and then moved on to play a lead role in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street.’

In the film, he essayed the role of Dean Baquet, the executive editor of The New York Times. The actor also made his directorial debut in the trilogy, ‘Love Songs’, and also acted in the film. Born in Chicago on July 1, 1962, Andre Braugher is survived by his actor-wife Ami Brabson and his three sons, Micheal, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
