Before buying a BMW, Mumbai entrepreneur called his father - what he said struck a chord online
In recent days, social media has been flooded with short clips about success, money, and milestones. But one video from Mumbai has caught attention for a very different reason. It is quiet, emotional, and deeply relatable. At the centre of it is not a luxury car, but a moment of doubt, honesty, and a father’s advice that many people instantly connected with.
Rishi Udapurkar, a 25-year-old Mumbai-based entrepreneur and founder of creative agency AdKo, shared a video on Instagram that showed a turning point in his life. Before making a big purchase, he chose to speak to the person whose opinion mattered the most to him. His father.
In the post, Rishi openly said that he was scared to make the call. The decision was exciting, but it also came with fear and hesitation.
When Rishi finally spoke to his father, filmmaker Shashank Udapurkar, he did not hide his concern. He explained that he had decided to buy a car, but the price made him uncomfortable.
“But the problem is, it’s a big amount, and I want to know, am I spending recklessly?” he asked. “In my mind, there’s a doubt.”
It was a simple question, but one that reflects the mindset of many young professionals who are still adjusting to financial independence.
Shashank Udapurkar’s response was calm and thoughtful. Instead of focusing on the cost, he spoke about mindset and motivation.
“Nothing is big, beta,” he told his son. “Agar kharch karne ki ichcha nahi hogi, toh kamane ka man bhi khatam ho jayega.”
The words clearly meant a lot to Rishi. In the video, he is seen getting emotional after hearing his father’s reassurance.
The video later shows Rishi reaching the car showroom to take delivery of his BMW. His family is present with him, making the moment feel grounded and personal rather than flashy.
Speaking about how he felt, Rishi said, “I feel grateful, honestly.” He added, “Kabhi bolte hain na ki aukaat se zyada mil jaata hai. I’m in that zone right now.”
The video quickly went viral, crossing 4.7 million views and receiving close to 4,000 comments on Instagram. Many viewers focused on the father’s words rather than the car.
“That one line is gonna stay with all the men,” one comment read. Another user wrote, “That line by his dad hit hard, man.” Someone else commented, “Wah! Agar Kharch karne ki iccha hi nahi hogi, toh kamane ka mann bhi khatam hojayega! Best line of 2026!”
Shashank Udapurkar also reacted to the love the video received. Thanking people for their messages, he added a humorous note.
“Overwhelmed by the love,” he wrote, before saying, “Par ‘uncle’ kehke gali kyun de rahe ho, bro? Umar shayad tumse 2 din zyada ho, par dil abhi bhi tumse jawaan hai.”
In a space where success is often measured loudly, this moment stood out for its honesty. It reminded many that behind big achievements, there is often a quiet conversation and the comfort of a parent’s faith.
