Chandrayaan-3 served as inspiration for a man named Mahato from Bengal, as he decided to purchase a piece of land on the Moon as a gift for his wife's birthday. Talking about the development, he said, "I couldn't buy the entire Moon, but at least I could secure a plot on its surface."
Mahato and his wife often cherished moments beneath the Moon's light and one day, she jokingly asked if he could buy her the Moon. And so, on his wife's first birthday after their wedding, he seized the opportunity to give her a piece of lunar land as a sweet gesture of his promise to her.
Attributing his inspiration to India's Chandrayaan-3 mission, Mahato believed that if nothing else, he could purchase a plot on the Moon's surface. He shared the process of acquiring lunar property stating that he learned about the Luna Society International, an organization that helped him buy an acre of land on the Moon. It took him approximately a year to complete all the necessary documentation and verifications.
When asked if he considered other gifts for his wife, Mahato explained that the Moon held a special place in both their hearts, making it the perfect gift for her first birthday after their marriage.
It's crucial to note that no one can legally own property in outer space at present. However, businesses have found a way to profit from couples enamoured with the Moon by providing them with "certificates" for purchased lunar land.
It's worth mentioning that there has been a surge in cases of people acquiring moon property in recent years due to the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 and the general fascination with the lunar surface. In a similar instance, a man from Jammu purchased lunar land from The Lunar Registry company in New York City, receiving his certification on August 25 of this year.
