“Just four days after the wedding, she was caught stealing jewelry. When confronted, she began threatening us and creating public scenes,” Omji shared. Over time, Shikha’s behaviour supposedly worsened, leaving Rishi emotionally and mentally exhausted.
According to the reports presented by various online media sources, on December 24, 2023, Shikha reportedly taunted Rishi by throwing a saree at him and saying, “Hang yourself with this.” Unable to bear the stress, Rishi left Delhi in his taxi. Two days later, he was found dead, having used the same saree to take his own life.
Connections to Atul Subhash’s caseRishi’s case got more attention after the recent death of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash. Atul, a 34-year-old engineer from Bihar, died by suicide on December 11, 2024. He left behind a 24-page note accusing his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of harassment.
Atul’s family claimed Nikita and her family had filed false cases against him and demanded ₹30 lakh to settle their issues. Feeling trapped by emotional and financial pressure, Atul took his life in his Bengaluru apartment.
Both cases share a pattern of men facing immense harassment and feeling unsupported by the legal system, leading to such devastating consequences.
Rishi’s family’s fight for justiceAccording to online sources, Rishi’s family has continued to face difficulties even after his death. Omji claimed that Shikha asked their father for ₹5 lakh the day after Rishi passed away. She reportedly threatened to stop his last rites if they didn’t give her the money.
“She insulted us publicly, shouted in the streets, and hurled abuses at our family. Despite filing complaints, the police took no action,” Omji said. He also claimed that Shikha’s family supported her actions, leaving his family feeling abandoned by the justice system.
Even after a year, no FIR has been filed against Shikha. Instead, Rishi’s family claims they are being dragged into false cases, making things harder for them.
Social media supportBoth Rishi and Atul's cases have gone viral on social media. The use of hashtags #JusticeForRishi and #JusticeForAtul has caught the attention of the public to the emotional and legal battles men often face in marriages. Most users are calling for proper action to stop the misuse of laws and give equal treatment to all parties involved.
Omji further expressed his frustration on social media: "Even now, she is only after money, and the law has failed to hold her accountable. Instead, our grieving family is being dragged into endless harassment."
