Robert Redford, an iconic Hollywood actor turned director has passed away at the age of 89, according to reports from The New York Times. The 89-year-old died at his home in Utah on Tuesday morning, as per publicist Cindi Berger. While the publicist did share that the actor died in his sleep, she did not disclose his cause of death.
“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah–the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly,” Berger said in a statement to CNN. “The family requests privacy.”

Born in 1936 in Santa Monica, California, Redford relocated to New York in the 1950s with the intention of becoming a painter. However, he was enamoured more by the art of acting and thus ended up pursuing it only to fulfil his big-screen debut in 1967 alongside Jane Fonda in a romantic comedy titled 'Barefoot in the Park'
