A heartbreaking story from Bengaluru has recently gone viral, showing the significant fall of a man who once had a highly successful career in the IT industry. As per various online sources and social media posts, he was an experienced engineer working for the tech company Mindtree in Frankfurt and Bengaluru. Today, he’s found begging on the streets of Jayanagar, his life is completely different from what it used to be. His story has made people talk about addiction, mental health, and how life can change unexpectedly.
From engineer to homeless
In a series of immensely emotional videos shared by social media user Sharath Yuvaraj, the man, wearing a red T-shirt and looking untidy and messy, claimed that he is a former engineer. He elaborated on his time at Mindtree, where he had a perfectly good career, but had a tragedy, losing both his parents. After this loss, he started drinking a lot, which took away his home and job, and he ended up having to beg on the streets to survive.

“I was working at Mindtree. I am an engineer,” he says in the video, reflecting on how his life completely fell apart after the death of his parents.
A mix of philosophy and pain
Despite his situation, the man still gets into deep and remarkably philosophical conversations. He is known for his references to famous personalities like Albert Einstein and David Hume, showing that his mind is still very sharp even though his life isn’t what it used to be. In one of the videos, he speaks about his struggle with addiction and the loss of his career, while thinking about the bigger questions in life. “Religion, caste, all those things... look at what I’ve become. I need to read more,” he admits, revealing the emotional and philosophical confusion and pain he's going through.
Efforts to help him
Sharath, who filmed the videos, first met the man on JSS College Road in Jayanagar. He had seen him drunk in the area days earlier and decided to help him. Sharath tried connecting him with recovery services, but the man refused any kind of help. Even when Sharath reached out to local NGOs and mental health professionals, the help was delayed because of unnecessary rules, and action could only be taken if the police got involved. Sharath is now trying to reach the Bengaluru city commissioner and local police, hoping to find the man and give him the help he immensely needs.
A realization about addiction and mental health
The man’s heartbreaking story has caught people’s attention, starting a bigger discussion about how easily success can be lost and how addiction and mental health problems can affect anyone. His situation highlights that even the most successful people can struggle with severe personal loss and addiction.

The situation also shows how hard it can be to help people in need, especially when they refuse help and there are many obstacles in the way. Despite Sharath’s efforts, the man’s refusal and the rules have made it difficult to get him the care he needs.
The need for more compassionate mental health support
The viral videos have raised important questions about how society deals with mental health and addiction. Many people have expressed shock at how someone could go from a successful career to living on the streets. It’s an important reminder that more action needs to be taken to support people struggling with mental health and addiction issues, particularly before things get as majorly bad as this man’s situation.
