7 stunning celestial events to witness during November 2025

Celestial events paint the night sky mesmerisingly, and this November offers an exciting treat for skywatchers. The month is packed with beautiful celestial events that promise to captivate enthusiastic stargazers. From stunning meteor showers painting the night sky with shooting stars to the mesmerising sight of a supermoon illuminating the evening, the upcoming weeks are filled with natural wonders, which can be observed using binoculars, a telescope, or just your naked eyes.

Here are some breathtaking celestial events scheduled to take place in November

2/8

Southern Taurid meteor shower

The Southern Taurid Meteor Shower reaches its peak on the night of November 4 into the early hours of November 5. While this meteor shower usually has a low frequency of meteors, 2025 may surprise observers with exceptionally bright shooting stars, some even brighter than Venus. The best way to enjoy this spectacle is to find a dark sky site late at night, looking where the meteors seem to radiate from the constellation Taurus. Although meteors are fewer, their brightness makes this shower a highlight for November.

3/8

Super Beaver moon

November’s full moon, known as the Beaver Moon, shines brilliantly on the night of November 5. This moon earns its nickname from old North American traditions where beavers prepare their dams for winter during this time. In 2025, the Beaver Moon will be a supermoon, meaning it comes very close to Earth in its orbit and appears larger and brighter than usual. It will reach peak brightness around 18:49 IST on November 5, giving a spectacular lunar show visible to the naked eye.

4/8

Moon and Pleiades star cluster

On November 6, skywatchers will be treated to a close encounter between the moon and the Pleiades star cluster, appearing less than a degree apart in the night sky. The Pleiades, part of Taurus, is a bright open cluster made up of over 1,000 young stars, though only about six of its brightest stars can be seen without a telescope. This celestial couple provides an excellent opportunity for photographers and stargazers to enjoy a stunning view of the moonlight along with twinkling stars.

5/8

Northern Taurid meteor shower

Following the Southern Taurids, the Northern Taurid Meteor Shower reaches its peak on the night of November 11 into the morning of November 12. Like its southern counterpart, this shower typically produces around five meteors per hour, but combined Taurid showers overlapping this year improve the chances of spotting more meteors. Both streams originate from debris left by Comet Encke, creating a beautiful opportunity to catch these relatively slow and bright meteors against the dark sky.

6/8

Leonid meteor shower

The Leonid Meteor Shower peaks between the night of November 17 and the early hours of November 18. Debris from Comet Tempel-Tuttle causes this shower, which can produce up to 15 meteors per hour under dark skies. Fortunately, this year’s waning crescent moon will not interfere much, providing ideal conditions for meteor viewing. The Leonids are known for their fast and bright meteors, often leaving long-lasting trails, making this one of November’s most anticipated sky events.

7/8

Micro new moon

On November 20, the moon reaches its apogee, the farthest point from Earth in its orbit, creating what is called a micro new moon. As the moon is completely dark, this night provides perfect conditions for observing faint and distant deep-sky objects, such as star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies, through telescopes or at places meant for stargazing expositions.

8/8

Uranus (1)

On November 21, Uranus reaches opposition, meaning it lies directly opposite the Sun relative to Earth and is at its closest point to us. This event allows Uranus to shine at its brightest and be visible all night long. While it looks like a faint star to the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope reveal its distinct blue-green hue. This is the best time of the year to observe the distant ice giant planet.
