Australia

Australia is the richest country in terms of massive gold deposits. The country churned out a whopping 12,000 tons of gold in 2023 and the export of gold is one of the leading businesses of the country accounting for over 50% of all exports and adding 8% to its GDP. It is one of the top-tier gold producers of the world with mines such as Newmont’s Boddington and Tanami, and Newcrest’s Cadia playing major roles and keeping the country at the top.Image credits: Canva

Russia

After Australia, Russia is the next big player in the gold fields with the production of 11,100 tons in 2023. It still holds its spot as Europe’s top supplier of gold since 2010. However, unlike Australia, Russia is not big on gold exports and rather consumes most of its production within its borders. Some of the most famous gold mines in Russia are Siberia’s Olimpiada mine, which is the largest gold mine in the country, along with other mines such as Blagodatnoye, Natalka, Kupol, Dvoinoye and Verninskoye.
