'500 mai ho jata': Indian woman in US reveals how fixing a small leak cost her Rs22,000; says India is more affordable

While the rupee might be below the dollars in value, when it comes to affordability, there's no such country as India. However, in the US things remain completely professional and discounts are not really a thing as a worker has to be paid by the decided wage and hour.

Recently, an Indian woman residing in the United States sparked a discussion online after she revealed that she had to shell out a whopping Rs 22,000 to fix a small water leak in her house. Amrita Singh, said the repair cost her $250, which is around Rs21,000 to Rs23,000.

“We paid $250 today to repair a small leak. In the US, if you have even a small repair job at home, you’re easily looking at $100 or $200. Labour costs are so expensive here that for every little task," she said. She also added that this made people learn to do all such manual tasks by themselves.

The clip also showed a text overlay that read, “Ek chota leak aur Rs 21,000 ka reality check." In the caption of the post, she compared the cost with what such a repair might cost in India. She wrote, “India me shayad Rs 500 to 1000 me ho jata… yahan $250."


Her post quickly gained traction online with people debating whether such costs are truly expensive considering the high pay packages in the US.

"Kama to dollar me rhe ho kharcha rupee me kyu btate ho," asked one user.

"No Surprise in India it's Rs 250 and in the USA it's $250 We earn in Rs. and paid in Rs. You earn in $ so paid in $," added another.

"If salary is 100000 dollars, then it's very less," another remarked.

Many in the comments humorously claimed that they were now heading to the USA after seeing a plumbing task being paid with Rs22,000. "Me ja rha hu abhi usa," wrote one. "Tab to mai v usa aarha hu jaldhi yaha india me kuch nhi hoga," another added.

Some users compared the amount directly with Indian rates. “Haad hai .. chor country.. india me 200.300 rs lagte hai .. india wapis aa jao," a comment read.
