Snakes are often associated with forests and jungles, but some species, like the sea snakes, are commonly found along coastal areas and beaches. A recent video from Goa has now sparked conversations online after a woman encountered a sea snake near the shoreline and warned people to stay cautious while visiting the beach. Instagram user Anuradha Singh shared a video while talking about her experience after spotting the snake near the shore. In the video, Anuradha described the moment she noticed the reptile near the beach. She said, “So a couple of minutes ago I saw several crows inspecting a snake. It looked pretty dead but now it looks completely fine and is heading towards the ocean. Just be careful if you’re swimming or coming ashore. Keep an eye out for snakes.”

Social media users reacted

The video clip instantly sparked much discussion online, with some surprised to see such a close encounter with a snake so near the beach. Others have related similar encounters they experienced while in Goa. Along with the video, Anuradha also shared a detailed caption to spread awareness about sea snakes commonly found around Goa’s beaches. Her caption read, “Public Service Announcement.
Sea snakes are actually extremely common along Goa’s coastline; especially around Benaulim-Sernabatim beaches. They often drift in with the rising tide or accidentally get trapped in fishing nets and wash ashore.”She further explained that while sea snakes are generally not aggressive, they can still be dangerous if disturbed. “The good news: they’re usually not aggressive towards humans and rarely bite unless provoked, handled, or stepped on. The bad news: their bites can be highly venomous and are often painless at first, which makes people delay treatment,” the caption added.

The Instagram user shares precaution steps one must follow:

Anuradha mentioned some precautions that individuals must follow if they encounter a snake at the beach. According to Anuradha, no one should attempt to touch or pick up a seemingly dead snake. Individuals should stay away from the snakes while swimming or walking on the beaches, especially during high tide.

Here is what one has to do in case they come across a snake at the beach:

* Do not approach the snake if it appears injured or dead.* Maintain some distance and stay away from the animal.* Be careful when walking on the seashore, as snakes tend to climb to higher spots during high tides.* Do not provoke the snake by tossing something at it or attempting to get too close to capture its picture.* If you’re out for a swim, gently move away from it and do not panic in the water.* Alert the lifeguards or forest department officials if the snake has appeared in the area where people have gathered.* Immediately head to the doctor’s office in case of a bite, even if there’s no pain or swelling involved. Her video has inspired many individuals on social media platforms to talk about their own experiences at Goa beaches as well as provide advice to people about staying safe from snakes.
