They also make fake eviction notices to get people to donate money quickly. Over the five years these fake operations have taken more than $730,000 from sites like GoFundMe.

Experts think the only way to stop this is for donors to stop giving to unverified social media accounts. Instead, they should support established organizations with a physical presence and a proven track record.
