Born into a Bengali Hindu family at Berhampore city in West Bengal, Shreya Ghoshal is one among the few playback singers who has recorded songs in over fifteen Indian languages and established herself as the leading vocalist in the country. In an illustrious career spanning for close to two decades, the melody queen has crooned over 2000 songs and bagged a horde of honours which include four National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards and ten Filmfare Awards South.

In 2013, she was honoured at the House of Commons of the United Kingdom (UK) for her contribution to music and in 2010, the then-governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland declared 26 June 2010 as “Shreya Ghoshal Day”.
Not many know that Shreya Ghoshal is the first Indian singer to have her wax statue at Madame Tussauds Museum. Ilaiyaraaja introduced the female singer to Telugu cinema by making her croon to ‘Sari Sari’ in Ninu Choodaka Nenundalenu and in less than a year, she grabbed the headlines for her melodious voice in ‘Nuvvem Maya Chesavo’ from Mahesh Babu’s 2003 blockbuster Okkadu. Shreya sang close to 300 songs in Tollywood and worked with all almost all the music composers.

Brilliantly crooned by Shreya Ghoshal, ‘Nuvvemmaya Chesavokaani’ is the introductory number of Bhumika Chawla in Okkadu and it is composed by Mani Sharma. Starring Mahesh Babu as the protagonist, the high-octane actioner directed by Gunasekhar recorded a monstrous success at the box-office and went on to bag eight Nandi Awards and four Filmfare Awards. The film follows the journey of a Kabaddi player who saves a girl from a dreadful factionist in Kurnool and hides her in Hyderabad. While the villain pursues them with all forces, the protagonist refuses to back down from a confrontation with him.

Nammina Na Madhi’ from Raghavendra (2003)

The devotional song was voiced by Shreya Goshal for the Prabhas starrer ‘Raghavendra’ in 2003. Composed by Mani Sharma, the number revolves around Raghavendra Swamy and his Mutt in Mantralayam. The meaningful lyrics and the soothing tune combined well with the magical voice of the singer.

While the lyrics of this heart-touching song were penned by Chandrabose, Shreya made sure that she crooned the solo number to perfection. MM Keeravani has composed the music for this romantic-drama and all songs ended up as chartbusters before the film’s release itself.

Though the suspense-thriller fell flat at the ticket counters, all songs composed by maestro Ilaiyaraaja ended up as chartbusters among the Telugu audience. While Shreya sang three songs in the album, Prathi Dinam and Ninu Vethiki created a sensation in 2007. Veturi Sundararama Murthy wrote some beautiful lyrics for Ninu Vethiki.
