Music Review: Kavacham
Directed by Sreenivas Mamilla, the
Beginning the album on an average note and hinting at what’s to come is Naa Adugu Padithey, which is a typical intro song for the infallible Telugu hero, does great injustice to the ever-dependable Raghu Dixit, with the lyrics penned by Chandrabose. For some reason, Thaman makes the creative choice to let his music overpower Dixit’s subtle and effective vocals, drowning them in a cacophony of sound. The lyrics of this number too have nothing much to write home about and the tune is plain okay.
Thaman makes the strange choice of overriding the vocals with music yet again with Tu Hi Mera by Rahul Nambiar with Ramajogayya Sastry’s lyrics. Why Rahul Nambiar’s vocals are so heavily auto-tuned in this track is a mystery only the music director can solve. As for the music, it is yet again loud and distracting; making Tu Hi Mera sound like any other generic EDM track. As for the lyrics — yet again there’s nothing much to write home about.
In a jukebox filled with subpar tracks,
But bringing things down again is Vasthava Pilla with Ramajogayya Sastry’s lyrics and Aditya Iyengar and Parnika’s vocals. The vocals, music, lyrics and just about every element on this number scream of major throwback, sounding pretty much like a Tollywood number from the early 2000s. The mix of English and Telugu lyrics, auto-tuned vocals and subpar music, nothing seems to work.
Ending the album on an equally subpar note is Nalugu Pedavulu, penned by Chandrabose and crooned by Hanuman and Aditi Bhavaraju. The elements of this number don’t seem to work, with nothing setting it apart. The lyrics and music yet again reek of the early 2000s.
The OST of Kavacham is a huge disappointment coming from a music director who’s capable of offering tunes like Ninnila from Tholi Prema andthe jukebox of Aravindha Sametha. None of the tracks salvage this sinking ship, with only Dulhara Tumhara sounding bearable. Give this one a miss this weekend and you won’t miss out on much!

is a mystery thriller which charts the journey of an innocent cop framed for a crime he did not commit. But seeing as how the film is a commercial potboiler, the OST of the film features five songs composed byThaman S

Dulhara Tumhara
is the only number that remotely stands out, especially when it comes to its vocals. Sreenidhi Tirumala does a good job on this one and her vocals are thankfully audible over the music with beautiful classical touches. While the track is a refreshing change from the previous number and is pleasing to the ears with the lyrics making sense for most part. The chorus of ‘dulhara tumhara’ running in an otherwise Telugu number however seems a little abrupt. Sandilya’s violin and Kamalakar’s flute are also the definite stand-outs in this number. But bringing things down again is Vasthava Pilla with Ramajogayya Sastry’s lyrics and Aditya Iyengar and Parnika’s vocals.
