He announced his next film Sasikala, based on the Tamil Nadu Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party's former general secretary Sasikala, who was a friend and close aide to the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the late Jayalalithaa. In August 2017, Sasikala was expelled from the party after a Supreme Court jury pronounced her guilty, ordering her immediate arrest in misappropriation of assets, effectively ending her chief ministerial ambitions.

Saying that it’s a story of a relationship that withstood merciless men, prisons and Mannargudi gangs, the director shared the update on social media with a poster featuring both the women. With the caption 'Love is dangerously political', the film is expected to deal with the relationship between the duo which has many rumours surrounding it. While Ram Gopal Varma has made announcements in jest before, it remains to be seen if this one really comes to fruition.
