Tollywood sequels that flopped big time

Sequels are undoubtedly a safe bet at the box-office. Once you know the first one has clicked with the audience, the second part of it comes easy. However, the film should also have that recall value and live up to the standard of the first one. But it is not always that makers manage to receive the same response for their sequels as the first instalment of their film did. Here we give you a rundown of Tollywood sequels that failed to work its magic on the audience and critics alike.

2/7

Nagavalli

P Vasu’s ‘Nagavalli’ had a stellar star cast which included Rajinikanth, Vankatesh, Anushka Shetty and others. However, the film received lacklustre reviews from both the critics and the audience. Despite incredible visuals and an ensemble star cast, the film reportedly had uneven storytelling. At the same time, one can’t blame Bellamkonda Suresh for taking the chance with a director like P Vasu and a star like Venkatesh and Rajinikanth.

3/7

Sardaar Gabbar Singh

‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ was reportedly the biggest debacle in Pawan Kalyan’s career. Though this isn’t technically one of the many sequels, it sort of returning of Pawan Kalyan with director Bobby where Pawan was seen as a cop playing an over-the-top character. Unfortunately, for Sharrath Marar, this wasn’t nearly as successful as ‘Gabbar Singh’ and gained the makers and Pawan Kalyan criticism. Even the actor’s charisma apparently wasn’t able to save from tanking at the box-office.

4/7

Kick 2

Ravi Teja really established his status as an action hero with his unexpected blockbuster ‘Kick’. That isn’t an easy task in Tollywood. The incredible chase of a thief kept the audience at the edge of their seats. Not much of a work was apparently put into the sequel. There were a lot of complaints in terms of its screenplay too.

5/7

Money Money More Money

A comedy entertainer can’t always save the day. Unlike the first, the second instalment of the 1995 film, 'Money’ was an overdone and overacted. Even Brahmanandam’s comedy and JD Chakravarthy’s direction did not seem to have helped the film. The mindless comedy was a reportedly a disaster.

6/7

Mantra 2

Charmy Kaur starrer Mantra (2007) was a super hit. Her amazing performance and director Tulasi Ram’s terrific making turned the film into a money spinner. The song ‘Maha Maha’ was one of the top chartbusters of the year. But it was totally killed off in the sequel. When it finally hit theatres, ‘Mantra 2’ was slammed by critics and shunned by audiences. The film was a total washout though it has a creepy storyline and star-studded cast. It was, unfortunately, a disaster!

7/7

Vennela 1.5

‘Say no to drugs and yes to career building ‘was the message of this 2005 romantic comedy wonder. It wasn’t just about fighting the bad things and bad habits but also one’s inner demons. Actor Raja’s chemistry with Parvati Melton was magical. However, while the first one was loved by the audience, the second part did not go down well with the viewers and was a flop at the box-office.
