Tollywood star Jr Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (Jr NTR), who has entertained us with his phenomenal acting and dancing skills for over a decade now, turns a year older on May 20. He has proved to be one of the finest actors Tollywood has ever produced. Known for getting into the skin of his characters and selecting a challenging and wide range of roles, he has with time evolved as an actor and performer.
He made his acting debut as a child artist in ‘Sr NTR’s ‘Brahmashri Vishwamitra’ and then appeared in Gunsekhar’s ‘Ramayanam’ where he played Lord Rama. His debut role as Venu in the 2001 film ‘Ninnu Choodalani’ to be directed by VR Prathap. However, it was after his first commercial success ‘Student No. 1’ that Jr NTR never looked back. On his special day, here’s look at his some best performances.

Jr NTR played the role of a law college student who makes the unruly students mend their ways. This SS Rajamouli’s film was based on the increasing unprofessional medicos in the society and the film was one of the blockbuster hits in 2001. Jr NTR’s performance in the film was commendable and the film had a 100-day run in 42 centres reportedly. MM Keeravani’s music is one of the major highlights of the film which is the directorial debut of SS Rajamouli.

The film, which was based on Rayalaseema faction, remains the biggest blockbuster for its narration and phenomenal performance delivered by Jr NTR. The film showed us Jr NTR the actor and a star. No other actor could have reportedly made that role so powerful and the movie so entreating! Jr NTR is credited with giving the depth to a well-loved faction star which had been perfectly executed on celluloid. It is easily one of the best performances the actor has delivered in his career spanning over a decade.

Mind you, Jr NTR was just 19-year-old when he stunned us with his magnificent performance in SS Rajamouli’s ‘Simhadri’. He played an orphan and good-hearted lad who takes care of his adopter and his family. It took a great deal of courage, conviction, and understanding of the emotions of the character he portrayed on the silver screen. His dialogue delivery, expressions, action and the way he got under the skin of his character for the film was admirable.

Jr NTR shone as Raja and young Yama in this fantasy-action entertainer by SS Rajamouli. With a brilliant director and a talented actor like Jr NTR, ‘Yamadonga’ had to be a blockbuster. If Raja takes your breath away with his trendy and smart looks, young Yama steals your heart with a mythological performance. One of the major highlights of this movie was the Sr NTR visual effects that Kamal Kannan created for a song in the film. Till date, ‘Yamadonga’ remains one of the remarkable performances in all these years. His acting was par excellence, so was his getup.

In this critically acclaimed film, Jr NTR played the role of a corrupt police offer who earns illegal money by using his job power and that was enough of a challenge in itself. His acting was so intense and real that no actor can reportedly match up to him, especially in the court scene. Director Puri Jagannadh handed a very powerful role to Jr NTR. The gutsy performance by Jr NTR is one reason enough to watch this movie.

Jr NTR has also done triple roles. His makeover as a person with the stammering disability was simply superb and his three getups totally owned the screen. All the roles were laden with wonderful layers of emotions, authority, quirks and vulnerability. Jr NTR is at the peak of his powers and he has his characters shades and dimensions thereby transforming one role into another. The movie has brought the triple role trend into focus in ‘Jai Lava Kusa’. Earlier, Megastar Chiranjeevi had started this triple role trend in his movie ‘Mugguru Monagallu’.
