With 23 flicks to his credit in a roller-coaster career spanning for over two-decades, Pawan Kalyan is currently a demigod in the Telugu territory both on the film and political fronts. After limiting himself to a supporting role in the 2014 general elections, the founder of ‘Janasena’ has finally ventured into active politics and is marching on with full guns blazing to play the lead role in the upcoming elections.

Pawan Kalyan, who made a grand film debut with ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’ in 1996, is turning 47 today. Popularly known by his sobriquet ‘Power Star’, the younger brother of Chiranjeevi is famous for churning out blockbuster films like ‘Tholi Prema’, ‘Thammadu’ and ‘Kushi’ to name a few. Though Pawan Kalyan refrains from indulging in any kind of celebration on his birthday, the massive fan-following which speaks volumes about his stardom does enjoy on his behalf.

​First Telugu hero to endorse a popular cool drink brand

Following his hat-trick blockbusters in the form of ‘Thammudu’, ‘Badri’ and ‘Kushi’, several multi-national companies queued before Pawan to get their products promoted by him. The ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ star was among the first South Indian actors to endorse a popular cola brand in the country. In fact, he is the first hero in Tollywood to have promoted a corporate company’s brand.

Presently, Pawan Kalyan is the brand ambassador for handloom weavers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

​Affectionate bond with his brother

Despite political differences, Pawan Kalyan always shared a loving and affectionate bond with his big brother Chiranjeevi. Not many know that it was Megastar’s wife Surekha Konidela who persuaded Pawan into becoming an actor. Actually, he was very much interested in direction.

The ‘Bangaram’ star shared a cordial relationship with his brother’s wife from a very young age. He treats her as a second mother.

​Martial artist and a Karate black-belt holder

Pawan Kalyan is a trained martial artist and holds a black-belt in Karate. He also worked as stunt coordinator-cum-hero for many of his films like ‘Kushi’, ‘Teen Maar’ and ‘Badri’. You can witness some of his breath-taking stunts in ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’.

Apart from action choreography, Pawan has donned multiple hats over the years that include director, singer, screenwriter, choreographer, and producer.

Pawan Kalyan’s relation with his nephews

Pawan has always been forward in supporting his nephews and nieces right from their childhood. He used to look after them whenever the family members were not around. Even now, he attends audio releases and private functions of Ram Charan, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Allu Arjun, Niharika Konidela and others.

The Konidela scion has a total of four children, a boy and a girl each to his second and third wife, Renu Desai and Anna Lezhneva.

​Best friends with Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh

Among his contemporaries in Telugu cinema, Powerstar Pawan Kalyan shares a good rapport with Superstar Mahesh Babu and Victory Venkatesh. He even starred alongside the latter in the 2015 emotional drama ‘Gopala Gopala’. Mahesh gave his voiceover for Pawan’s film ‘Jalsa’ in 2008 and Venkatesh played a cameo in the recent ‘Agnyaathavaasi’.

Big fan of Akira Kurosawa and admires Che Guevara

Pawan Kalyan confessed that he was greatly influenced by the films of legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa and wanted to make films like him. He also named his son as Akira Nandan. In 2003, Pawan made his debut both as a writer and a director for the sports drama ‘Johnny’ which was critically acclaimed for its realistic screenplay and action sequences.

The Powerstar of Tollywood is also an ardent admirer of Argentinian revolutionary leader Che Guevara.
