​Yash-Prashanth Neels' ‘KGF: Chapter -2’ sets several FIRST records with the film

‘KGF: Chapter - 2’ is one of the rare Kannada language films written and directed by Prashanth Neel of ‘Ugramm’ fame that went on to break and set several new records in the Kannada Cinema. KGF: Chapter-2’ is a sequel to the 2018 film KGF: Chapter 1’ that stars Kannada actor Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon and Prakash Raj.

The film has been cinematographed by Bhuvan Gowda, and its music is composed by Ravi Basrur while 19 years old teenager Ujwal Kulkarni has reportedly edited the film. The film is dubbed into all major Indian film languages such as Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam and got released today (14th April 2022). Below are some of the first records set by a Kannada film in the Kannada cinema as well as Indian cinema.

​First Indian film teaser to mint more than 250M views

Chapter 2’ single teaser that was unveiled on 7th January ahead of its official launch in English dialogues has become the most viewed and most liked teaser ever in Indian cinema with a whopping 240+M views, while the official trailer of the film become the most-watched Indian trailer in first 24 hours with over 109M views across five languages.

​First Kannada film to release in Greece

‘K.G.F: Chapter-2’ that used to be limited to Karnataka so far, if not used to get dubbed into its adjacent languages such as Telugu and Tamil which now is being released in the US, UK, Gulf and Greece for the first time. KGF-2 marks the first Kannada film to release in the European country Greece.

First Kannada film to screen on over 10K screens

Kannada films that used to get released on a maximum of over 250 screens, increased to 4000 screens with the posthumous release of Late Puneet Rajkumar’s movie ‘James’. Now, the super success of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ and the hype surrounding the film has made the makers dubb and released it over 10000 screens worldwide which is by far the biggest in Kannada and even Indian cinemas.

First Kannada film to release in IMAX format

‘KGF-2’ also records to be the first Kannada to release in IMAX format. The film was generally released in 2D formats but in Kannada, Prashanth Neel has released the film in 3D format on some screens. SS. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ too has been released in 3D formats across all languages.

​The First Kannada film made with such a huge budget

Yes, Yash, Prashanth Neel and Vijay Kirangandur’s film ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’ is one of the most expensive films made in Kannada cinema with a whopping budget of Rs 100 crores. Though the film is a two-cinematic parts period action drama, its first part was reportedly made with Rs 80 crores, however, due to the film’s hype, the makers have raised its budget to make the film even more grandeur and release it across the nation in all major film industries.
