With no heroine, no star attraction and no promotions whatsoever, the dark road-thriller which released opposite Vijay’s Whistle in the Telugu states is performing exceedingly well both at the single screens and multiplexes. With an impressive collection of over Rs 3 crore share in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Karthi starrer is standing strong as a testimony to the power of 'word of mouth'.
Though there is less pre-release buzz for this dubbed version of Kollywood film Kaithi, the momentum gradually picked up as most shows are hitting to a housefull button in almost all theatres. To raise the anticipation, the makers have released a 4-minute scene from the film on YouTube and guess what; the sequence is one among the major highlights of the film.
Karthi is the real show-stealer in this riveting episode and his expressions while feasting on a biryani are something to look out for. Narain too plays the inspector role to perfection and some of the happenings in this serious scenario will evoke a few laughs.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the plot of Khaidi happens in four consecutive hours. Karthi plays the role of Dilli, a former prisoner who has served a 10-year term in jail. During promotional interviews, the 42-year-old actor revealed that besides the prisoner concept, the story of Khaidi revolves around a father who hasn’t seen his 10-year-old daughter and the obstacles he faces to meet her.
