As theatres reopened in the country, films like Mohan Krishna Indraganti’s V and
Vijay Kumar Konda’s Orey Bujjiga, which hit OTT have released in theatres.
While these films were made with a theatrical release in mind, the filmmakers had to opt for a digital release due to the pandemic and the uncertain fate of theatres reopening. So once theatres reopened and films like Subbu’s Solo Brathuke So Better and RGV’s Murder hit screens, the filmmakers opted for a theatrical release also, in hope of drawing in big crowds on New Year.
Nani,
Sudheer Babu,
Nivetha Thomas and
Aditi Rao Hydari starrer V got a digital release in September and was a decent hit.
Raj Tarun, Malvika Nair and
Hebah Patel starrer Orey Bujjiga got digital release in October and received lukewarm response. Excited about the V’s release in theatre, Nani took to social media and wrote, “A rerelease on the day 1 of 21 .. how cool is that in THEATRES fromTODAY . Happy new yearrrrr to all of us.” (sic)
V is Nani’s 25
th film and sees him play a grey character in the film, while Sudheer plays the role of a super-cop. Talking about his role and the film, director Indraganti had earlier said, “Nani is inarguably the best fit for this role. I have seen Nani grow as an actor since 12 years and I strongly believe he has the potential to pull it off. He did not even hesitate to play a grey role in such a landmark film.”
It remains to be seen how these films will fare in theatres now that are currently running on 50% occupancy.
