Uppena movie review highlights : Vaisshnav Tej, Krithi Shetty, Vijay Sethupathi starrer has an engaging first half

The film tells the love story of Aasi (Panja Vaisshnav Tej), a fisherboy who has unconditional fondness for Bebamma (Krithi Shetty) since childhood. Bebamma is a sheltered young woman viewed with reverence as she's the daughter of Rayanam (Vijay Sethupathi), a local big-wig. While Aasi and Bebamma love each other with innocence, their union poses a threat to Rayanam's reputation.


Uppena has music by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Shamdat and marks the debut of the director and lead pair both. Seeing as how Vaisshnav is the brother of Sai Dharam Tej & Buchi is the former associate of Sukumar, expectations were high on the film before it's release.


First half of the film sees Buchi set up the love story & up the stakes right before the interval. The story also explores how Rayanam wants to take over fishermen's land to set up a fishing yard. It remains to be seen if the film manages to pull off the story in the second half. With the film following familiar beats so far, even if the performances set it apart, it also remains to be seen if Buchi Babu manages to bring in elements that set it apart from other honour killing tales.
