In what can be termed as a ‘barbaric and dastardly’
terror attack, a series of bombings have shattered
Sri Lanka
on the morning of
Easter Sunday. At least 207 people have been killed and 500 more injured in a series of explosions targeting three churches and three luxury hotels in the island nation. As the Easter prayers are in the full swing, the churches are crowded with devotees.
So far, eight bomb blasts have been recorded in and around the Sri Lankan capital city of
Colombo
and several attacks have been reportedly carried out by suicide bombers. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombings but Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene revealed that the culprits had been identified and they were religious extremists. He added that
suicide bombers
were responsible for the majority of the explosions and the wave of attacks was the work of a single group.
Several world leaders including Narendra Modi, Imran Khan, Vladimir Putin, Theresa May and Donald Tusk have condemned the attacks and expressed their sympathies to the victims. Along with
Bollywood
, several
celebrities
from the Telugu film fraternity took to
social media
and denounced the bloodbath as an act of cowardice.
